DSupt. Nathaniel Johnson's private notes: Frankly, I wasn't sure what to make of Pippin when he first joined the CID. Coming from an upper-class, boarding school background, with an outward tendency toward narcissism and self-absorption, he initially came across as rather a dilettante in the world of criminal investigation. This demeanor, coupled with reports of the ... shall we say colorful lifestyle he leads when off duty, made me wary at first and can still cause arched eyebrows among myself and his other superiors.

However, it didn't take long for Pippin to display the traits that brought him his DI rank: a keen mind, sound instincts, well-honed investigative skills and a knack for adapting himself to a variety of situations, all of which have earned him the respect of officers who would normally have dismissed him as nothing more than a ponce. And though he professes a decided distaste for the more physical aspects of police work, he has nevertheless acquitted himself very well at those times when danger runs high and words no longer suffice. Psych has quite a bit to say about the often variable, shell-game nature of his personality, and even more to say about his lifestyle. But as long as the former suits his work so well and he keeps the other off-duty, I shall have no complaints ... at least none to be entered on his permanent record.

Though I do have to wonder what his new temporary partner will make of him, and vice versa. I'm assigning him to work with NYPD Detective Eddie Arlette, a man who, according to his superior's description, is as straightforward and "gung-ho" as Pippin is contradictory and contained. Hopefully the two of them can both crack this oxycodone ring and keep each other somewhat in check.

Eddie: (reading) "Somewhat in check"? Well Nathaniel, one out of two ain't bad, is it? Hey Monty, how the hell did you get your hands on your confidential file anyway?
Monty: Ways and means, Eddie, ways and means. ...... Do you want to see yours?
Eddie: ... Nah. I think I'd rather not know.
Monty: Suit yourself, dude.
Eddie: Love those references to your "colorful lifestyle". Talk about understatement.
Monty: Consider the source, Eddie. Superintendent Johnson could hardly be expected to put down in official records that the Met employs a bisexual, unmarried swinger as a Detective Inspector.
Eddie: Don't forget sexaholic.
Monty: I prefer to think of it as enjoying an active and varied sex life.
Eddie: I tend to think of it as one man becoming the main support of the condom and lube manufacturers.
Monty: No need to be envious, mate.
